Your Guide to Reading Between the Tines

Take the Reins!

With folks in from out of town and things on several burners today (literally and figuratively), I’m a little pressed for time.  Being a practical kind of peoplefolk, I figured this would be a good opportunity to let my readership take over for today and talk to me.

So, let ‘er rip.  I’ve been wondering: What topics do you want Simple Spoonful to cover in the future?

  • Genetically modified crops?
  • Gardening?
  • Artificial and natural flavors and colors?
  • Kitchen equipment helpful for a natural foods kitchen?
  • How to eat for energy?
  • Holiday recipes/holiday recipe makeovers?
  • Food storage tips?
  • Cookbook suggestions?
  • Book or movie reviews?
  • Holiday gift suggestions?

Let me know if any of those appeal to you, or if you have something else in mind.  While I may not have much to offer if you request a post on, say, architectural drafting,  I will do my durndest to help you out how I can.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go knead some bread.

We have been eating organic and local since the summer of 2007 when we listened to “The Omnivore’s Dilemma.” We live in northern California which helps improve the variety of fruits and vegetables available during the winter. My question relates to storage. What’s the best way to store veggies like onions, garlic, potatoes, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, etc.? Any help would be appreciated.

How can we make a difference?? I can preach to the choir about GMOs but how can we really affect change. That’s what I would love to hear your thoughts on! :-)

How to eat for energy sounds good to me. You know, some ideas, combinations or recipes for dishes that will keep you moving throughout the day without too many peaks and valleys, and obviously without things like caffeine. That would be very helpful! I usually start yawning at about 3 o’clock….

So, I have two questions, since I’m new-ish to this kind of eating.

First, how does one wean oneself off of processed foods? They seem to be everywhere

Second, what recommendations do you have for those who work in an office and would like to bring healthful lunches that won’t take 90 years to make in the morning. My one catch is that I live in the frozen tundra of the north, and I want something warm in the winter. :)

    Thanks!

    Hello there!
I’ve just found out about you blog, and it’s almost like the ideal blog in my mind! Wow! So what would I like to see more? In addition to all political content, practically I’d like to see simple recipes, especially desert recipes please, as they seem to be getting richer, more decadent and gluttonous every day.
Thanks a lot for the great work!
