Your Guide to Reading Between the Tines

Meet Bix

I recently got turned on to Fanatic Cook, written by Bix.  Bix provides interesting tidbits of news on food safety, politics, policy, and nutrition, along with thoughtful commentary.  It’s a good read; if you haven’t yet stumbled onto Bix, you should hie yourself over there and check out the site.  Of particular interest to me is this recent post on what Daschle as Secretary of Health and Human Services might mean for the FDA.

Happy reading, everyone!

I just read the first couple posts on Fanatic Cook and am so glad you posted this link – lots of good info and commentary to think about. The December 20 post on gorillas and brussels sprouts had me laughing :-) The idea of licensing in one of the other posts really made me think, and made me even more grateful for my relationships with my local farmers/CSA. Knowing who grows the food, how, and why makes a such a mental difference, and it makes me invested somehow in the food I eat.

Adding, forgot in the last post, what I mean by invested is that there is a name and method to the food, its not from a random unknown grower. Its from George Hall Farm (e.g.) or from Graywall Farms. I can see the faces of the farmers in my mind. I know them, know their voices and their growing patterns. Such a good feeling I wish more people could experience.
